Jobless rate in surprise fall to 3.4pc as economy remains resilient

Australia's unemployment rate has fallen back to 3.4 per cent, defying economists' expectations of an increase from 3.5 to 3.6 per cent. 

Around 32,000 jobs were added to the economy in October, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, leaving the jobless rate near a half-century low.
