Natural disaster claims could be delayed without COVID rule changes, Insurance Council of Australia warns

The rapid assessment of insurance claims from natural disasters could be delayed for months rather than weeks unless COVID restrictions are eased before summer.

Insurance Council of Australia chief executive Andrew Hall says without a national approach on close and casual contacts and the definition of an essential worker, insurance assessors might not be able to cross borders.

The warning follows similar concerns from the food processing industry which says supplies could be delayed in the leadup to Christmas if exposed workers are quarantined.
