Inflation climbs on fuel and houses - could eventually test Reserve Bank's low rate pledge

A jump in fuel prices has contributed to a broader rise in inflation over the past few months, which could put upward pressure on interest rates. 

The official ABS measure of consumer prices rose 0.8 per cent over the September quarter, with prices 3 per cent higher than a year earlier. ABC's Peter Ryan says the inflation pressure could tempt the Reserve Bank to review its commitment to keep rates near zero until 2024.
