Second term for Reserve Bank governor Philip Lowe to be decided by mid next year, says Treasurer Jim Chalmers

Treasurer Jim Chalmers has confirmed the future of Reserve Bank governor Philip Lowe will be decided midway through next year with no guarantee he'll be appointed to a second term as governor.

Dr Chalmers will made the decision based in part on a review underway into the central bank's performance.

Submissions to the Review were released today

ABC's Peter Ryan says Mr Lowe's ill-fated signal about near zero interest rates until 2024 could decide his career.
