Medibank refuses to pay cyberattack ransom with data of 9.7m customers exposed

Medibank says no ransom payment will be made to the criminal responsible for the recent data hack as the the private health insurer revealed the number of affected customers has grown to 9.7 million.

Chief executive David Koczkar won't confirm the figure being demanded and says paying up would encourage more attacks warning that individual Medibank customers could be approached directly with extortion demands.
