Inflation surprisingly eases to 6.9pc in year to October from 7.3pc as supply bottlenecks clear

It might be a false dawn - but news that inflation unexpectedly fell in October is stoking optimism that the Reserve Bank's aggressive rate rises are starting to work.

Inflation fell to 6-point-9 percent .. well below forecasts .. providing some hope that surging prices might be about to peak - and that would be welcome relief to households.
