As the world moves towards an increasingly cashless society, the Reserve Bank is launching a digital currency project to determine its viability in the real economy.
Here's the Reserve Bank's statement.
The digital currency would be issued and backed by the RBA as central banks rush to get in front of fast-evolving digital coins or token with the aim of regulating them.
