China's economy goes negative in quarter, annual GDP flatlines. Global recession stormclouds darken.

China's economy contracted sharply in the second quarter of this year, highlighting the steep toll from COVID lockdowns across the country.


Second quarter growth went negative (-2.6 percent) while annual GDP flatlined at just 0.4 percent, crashing from the prior 4.8 percent.
