Treasurer Jim Chalmers poised to intervene with extraordinary measure to preserve domestic gas in face of surging energy prices

The new Albanese government is under enormous pressure to intervene in the energy market to protect consumers from soaring gas and electricity prices. 

Treasurer Jim Chalmers has a measure available to preserve domestic gas supplies to keep prices down under the Australian Domestic Security Gas Mechanism but he's so far resisting calls to pull the trigger as a cold snap on the east coast pushes up demand.
