Reality is quickly setting in for the new Treasurer Jim Chalmers as he confronts budget numbers that he quickly described as "dire".
Just a few days into the job, Mr Chalmers warned the nation should brace for more bad news on debt and deficits - and skyrocketing power prices which will be confirmed later this morning.
