World Bank warns food prices could surge 37pc pushing poor households into poverty

While there's an almost daily focus on the rising cost of living during the election campaign, the World Bank says the surging costs of basic food is widening the gap between the rich and poor around the globe.

There are warnings that food costs could spike by more than a third in the coming year as supply blockages from the pandemic and the war in Ukraine push some households into poverty.
