Surging inflation puts Reserve Bank on track for pre-election rate rise as borrowers brace for mortgage stress

Australians could be paying more for their home loans within days with the Reserve Bank likely to raise official interest rates next Tuesday. 

Confirmation that consumer inflation is rocketing could spark the RBA's first cash rate rise in more than a decade - but this time it would be right in the middle of an election campaign. 

Money markets are pricing in a near certainty the RBA's cash rate will rise for the first time since 2010.
