Banking regulator raises home loan test in to counter surging real estate prices

The banking regulator has announced tougher serviceability tests for home loans, which will make it harder for some borrowers to get a mortgage, on the same day the Reserve Bank of New Zealand lifted its benchmark interest rate. 

Australian Prudential Regulation Authority chair Wayne Byres tells ABC's Peter Ryan he has acted to reinforce the stability of the financial system.
