US Federal Reserve sidelines inflation focus to build jobs as pandemic crunches economy

The US Federal Reserve will temporarily sideline its normal focus of targeting inflation to focus on creating jobs for millions of Americans cast out of work over the past six months. 

Investors have welcomed the news, assured that interest are now certain to stay close to zero for years.

Woolworths boss Brad Banducci says he's embarrassed by worker underpayments as bill hits $500 million


Woolworths chief executive Brad Banducci has forfeited his performance bonus as the supermarket giant returns $500 million in backpayments to underpaid workers. 

In handing down a 57 percent fall in full year profit to $1.16 billion , Mr Banducci said he was embarrassed about the underpayments as the company braces for a steep fine from the Fair Work Ombudsman.

Mr Banducci tells ABC's Peter Ryan he's bracing for a penalty from the Fair Work Ombudsman.

ALDI boss Tom Daunt says border closures not hurting supermarket supplies yet but are tough to manage

ALDI Australia chief executive Tom Daunt says border closures aren't hurting supermarket supply chains yet but are difficult to manage. 

Mr Daunt says shoppers appear to be calmer that at the height of the crisis and accept the "new normal" will remain until a vaccine emerges. 

Also, Mr Daunt tells ABC's Peter Ryan that ALDI stores and warehouses will run on 100pc renewable power from 2021.

Westfield mall owner Scentre in $3.6b loss as rent dispute with tenant intensifies

Westfield shopping mall owner Scentre Group has posted a $3.6 billio first half loss as pandemic carves $4.1b off asset valuations. 

Mosaic Brands, locked in rent dispute with Scentre, says it might close between 300 & 500 stores, as it reels from $170m full year loss. 

ABC's Peter Ryan says the dispute between Scentre and Mosaic highlight the emerging "cliff" when measures to ensure rent relief for struggling tenants is ultimately wound back.



AMP executive at centre of complaints secure "for now" after chairman David Murray forced out

As the AMP board once again confronts deep cultural problems, the Australian Shareholders Association says the man at the centre of sexual harassment complaints Boe Pahari should not join chairman David Murray in leaving the wealth company. 

Spokesman Ian Graves tells ABC's Peter Ryan that Mr Pahari has paid a big penalty for his behaviour and it is now up to the AMP board to restore the company's reputation.

AMP chairman David Murray, director John Fraser quit board over handling of sexual harassment claims against top executive

AMP chairman David Murray and director John Fraser have resigned over the company's handling of a series of sexual harassment complaints against top executive Bo Pahari. 

Mr Murray conceded his decision to quit followed "feedback expressed by some major shareholders".
